Any of you guys ever use bobbers while longlining? It seems like it should work on the same principle as a planer board other than the baits going out away from the boat. If you’ve done this before please share your experiences good and bad. Also, is there a particular type of bobber and size that works better than others for 1/16oz jigs?

Years ago , that’s the only way I long lined for crappies .
Back then I didn’t it was called long lining .
I used 1/32 white feather jigs on spincast rods with Zebco 33 reels .
We caught our share .
I’ve have to give it a try again this year .
Got to thinking about my bobber longlining setup and remembered we used splitshot about 10-12” above the jigs to help keep them down . Varied depth from 2 1/2’ to 4’ .
I use these with 1/4 oz double minnow rigs. Order them from Grizzly.

I used that technique quite a bit this last season using a slider, shot and jig setup. Worked very well for me.
works really well. Especially in shallow water. I use 1/32 jigs under round float. It allows you to slow down while keeping your baits off bottom. Works pulling minnards too
The round bobbers add a lot of action to the jigs , especially when there’s a chop on the water .
That’s the way I was taught to troll by my father back in the sixties and early seventies. When he got to sick to get in the boat in the early 2000 time period, he still used floats for trolling. I still use floats when the crappie get to the shallows spawning. Let’s you be able to go slow without having your jigs sink to bottom.
We really did not troll back then. we turned the boat sidways and let the wind drift us a long which was the same thing as trollinglQuote:
