Still A Beginner After All These Years - Need Gear Info
Hi all. My name is Jared (or Smitty, I'll take either) and I am a lifelong fisherman from Southeast Missouri. My Dad got me started when I was about 3 years old and here I am, nearly 35 years later, still after it. However, I realized that I am still VERY much a beginner. I've got the same crappie setup I've had since I was about 9 or 10, which is an Uncle Buck Deluxe two piece rod with an unnamed fly reel, set up for a slip float vertical style approach with minnows. That is literally all I've ever used and all I have ever known about crappie fishing. It still works but I'm wanting to invest in a new setup for myself and am wondering what options you all would suggest? I know of names like B'n'M (which have been recommended to me already) Lews, Mr. Crappie but am looking to get more information. I'm not interested in spider rigging yet, but would like to keep my setup at a reasonable price of around the $100 mark if possible. To me that's a big investment. So feel free to suggest anything from rods and reels to line, hooks, jigs, etc.
