My garmin has a ground connector on the back. The instructions don't mention it. Why is it there?

My understanding it’s a extra point of ground in case you have interference. Some hook it up some don’t. Since I was wiring anyway I just went ahead and installed one to battery ground. Don’t believe it’s really necessary but won’t hurt anything to hook it up.
Thanks cray. I've been looking for info on that for days without any luck. Started to wonder if it was used for data transfer but now I know and can stop worrying.

I've wondered the same thing. I've never used it, but do get some interference when both the bow and console units are running, I may hook it up and see what it does.
I don't use it, but my Garmin 102sv/PLS system runs on it's own battery.
On my favorite lake there is a place where you pass under many electrical cables. My other unit will go nuts and sometimes shut off while near it. Just maybe the extra ground will fix that. Worth a try!

Garmin calls it a water ground. Too long to text but if anyone wants to call I can relay what they advise.
