Arrow head limestone creek kayak report

I fished Wednesday from 7 till 3 . Water was very low and the current was kicking. I fished the first pit and only caught 2 crappie. I walked back to the last pit and caught 1 black nose crappie and that was it for the crappie. About 10:30 i started bass fishing and it was game on. I caught 35 or so and lost 6 or 7. Biggest was 4 1/2 lb and several 2-3 lb fish. All on shakey head with 6 inch worm. All released for another day .I saw Greatplump at the mouth of the bay. Must have been a bumpy ride back across the bay to the ramp as the wind had really picked up when i left. Great day on the water

I went Tuesday and only caught 5 Crappie, but mainly spent the day learning my new fishfinder. Since I know where many of the stumps are in Limestone I decided it would be a good area to see how things looked on the side imaging. In one of the deep holes I could see the individual branches of a tree on the bottom and count the larger fish suspended between them. It's really going to make things interesting in areas I fish with deeper water (over 10 foot) like Moulton and Madison County.

Usually once the water drops into the mid 40's most of the Crappie in upper Limestone will leave on the first water rise. Looks like that happened in the last couple weeks while I was out of town. There will still be a few, but large numbers are unlikely until spring. Once the water warms into the upper 50's they will come flooding back in on the first water rise looking to spawn. While Wheeler is still in winter drawdown is can be unbelievable since the low water makes it impossible for the large boats for another few weeks.

I'm think of trying for some winter Shellcrackers in upper Limestone. I've never fished for them in that area, but the bottom is covered in snails about half the size of a marble so there should be a few.

I may be mistaken but I think that's the first black nosed, white crappie I've seen posted. I thought black nosed was a black crappie genetic thing??

I see your exploiting my fave winter hole for bass.....I use trick worms too but black in color on a conventional texas rig...last three trips I had a hit almost every cast...been fishing there for 30 years. a Jig will catch bigger fish though not as many and when the water warms in late feb a spinnerbait in crappie colors will catch tons of 3-5 pounders...

Thanks for all your posts and helping us out that haven't fished this area much. We need pics of the images from the new unit. I learn more about the area every time i fish it.
