Lake Wichita

The fatties came out to play yesterday. This particular lake is extremely shallow, yet grows some of the fastest crappie you will catch up here in the Wichita Falls area. Other larger lakes in the area cant compete with Lake Wichita in terms of fat crappie. Including Arrowhead. 3'-6' down with a small feather jig was the winning ticket. Slow decent was the key. KABOOM ....by the way is that a line of old posts from a dock ?
and to be sure white crappie thrive in shallow murky water my friend .
i should a come play ketch crappie with you yesterday instead a huntin deer
drove about the same amount and only saw does :banghead

Yes,those are old post. There used to be a huge pavilion, and amusement park at the lake. I think the pavilion was built in the late teens,or early 20's. Had a rail line to it. People would come from all over to enjoy. Sadly it burned in the 50's. This lake is one of the oldest in texas. I think it came to life around 1900. Id have to check the history books to be sure,hahaha. Come on up and fish any time.

i saw it was ridiculous shallow and the other fish species were suffering .
not many people really understand white crappie very well .
they are a mississippi river oxbow fish and thrive in shallow muddy water .
white crappie do very well in water that has more sediment in it than H20 :Rofl
