I just ordered the Leland Lures Fin Spin jig head kit. I plan on long line trolling them off the transom of my boat on a 6 pole rig. Has anyone else trolled with these under blade jig heads? I’ve never trolled any bladed jig heads at all and I’m curious to see other people’s results. Figured I’d give them a shot because I’ve had a lot of luck using lelands crappie and trout magnet products.
I field tested them when they first came out. I’m not much into trolling but I trolled with them and caught a lot of crappie. The good thing about them is the blade doesn’t need much speed at all to turn. The cupped head on them allows you to go pretty slow. I had a bunch of preproduction ones and I had some with a #6 hook on them. I’m a bluegill nut and bluegill would kill the 1/32 Fin Spin. I used some of the heavier ones dressed with a Slab Curly to troll below Center Hill Dam. Caught a lot of 14-15 inch black nose with that setup. These were all on the Fin Spin dressed with a Midnight Blue Slab Curly.Quote:

I'm sure they're fine fish catching lures. That being said, so is the tried & true Road Runner.

I’ve seen the road runners at bass pro shops but decided to go with the fin spin setup from Leelands only because I’ve had really good results with the crappie magnet. I got a chance to test them out at a local pond this weekend. I trolled the fin spin 1/8 ounce for about an hour and caught right around 10 black crappie on it. I didn’t really catch any nice slabs but Ill take catching smaller fish all day over no bites at all ��
Yes sir, small fish better than no fish, though unless legal size still no fish for da grease...
I’m in south jersey we’re only allowed to keep 10 crappie per person (black or white) combined and keepers are 8” minimum. So I always try to get at least two buddies to tag along with me to bring home a decent haul.
I like them. Caught my PB white Crappie on their spin jig head with a slab magnet. As already said they spin even when pulled very slow.
Trolled the 1/16 ounce fin spin jig heads last night caught two crappie on the orange fin spin head dressed with a black and chartreuse split tail grub jig. Woulda had a lot more action but a surprise heavy rain storm rolled in. Finally caught a decent slab trolling the fin spin hopefully more to come! Attachment 387416
