My 2 Cents

of course in the end there is a method or 27 to my madness
and some get me and some don't , but here in lies the the details just the same of yet another lake visit .
big natural jig like I used on Monday at a different lake ....not good
changed over to a tiny 1/64 orange number 8 bucktail and got bites .
did i ketch lots of big fish you ask ?....not really .
did i ketch lots of fish ...?
according the audience on the dock YES ....rotfl
but at around 15 fish in 45 minutes
i thought it was a bit on the slow side .
the good news is this ,it was somewhat entertaining and lots of various species of fish bit .
most of the bites occurred close to the surface on the almost wont fall tiny jig .
pretty much an even mix of black crappie ,white crappie and bluegill and the one bass
it was a just a lunch break at a boat ramp
hopefully soon ....like today ...i will hit another lake
according to the local every day on the dock guys
these were the only fish they have seen anyone ketch
they fish for catfish and cant even get them to bite ? :yikes

never heard back from him , funny you mentioned that , I gave a big box full of 5 year old plastics that the same fella makes to a bud and he was whacking with one of the "off" colors Monday like a pro ....
will try to remember to call him today and or visit the website and see if they are back in stock :cheers2

when you pitch it you leave your line slack laying on the water surface
then you watch it as it VERY slowly moves forward towards where you pitched
when it stops moving you set the hook
about 2 to 3 foot down is my guess as it dont sink long before it stops sinking
and yes on 6 lb test it sinks REALLY slowly
when i am after fish high in the water column i go with really light jigs quite often
the slower the fall the more likely it will get bit
in hard fished areas like here in the metroplex
you best have a big bag a tricks :cheers2

That's some good stuff right there!

My preferred jig size is the 1/64th.

If I am fishing deep I add a spit shot or two above it to get it to sink faster. This also allows the jig to slowly swing through an arc when you stop the downward movement of the jig. Only problem with split shot is they sometimes hit the split shot instead of the jig as it falls.

I have also caught some large bass while fishing for crappie with a 1/64th jig.

That slack line technique works for you but I'm a follow my jig down guy......
