Shorter days, shorter trips, 9-9
With the days getting noticeably shorter, I was able to get loaded up and get away on a short trip this afternoon after work. Launched at a quarter to 5 under mostly cloudy skies, air temperature in the low 80's, water temp about 74, no wind to speak of. As I was getting set up, I noticed a few marks right off the launch area so dropped down a stinger and had a quick take from this smaller than average 'gill.

I got the other poles strung up with a Slabalicious paddle tail and a stinger on a roadrunner head and started out trolling the 3 lines. I soon had another small bluegill on the RR. As I was releasing him (everybody got returned to the water tonight) I saw more marks on the screen below me so dropped down and enticed this nice crappie, around 12":

Trolling again soon produced the only double of the night, both in the 11" range

My good luck continued until I called it a night about 7:20, with daylight fading fast and a bit of a snarl on one rod that I didn't feel like dealing with just then. Total for the trip would be 3 bluegill of average or smaller size and perhaps 14-16 crappie, with a couple of juniors of 6-7" but most being 10" and longer, with a couple of solid 12"ers. For some reason tonight all the crappie just seemed to fight harder than usual; they didn't just rise to the surface and surf in, they dug deep and pulled hard. Lots of fun! Rain in the forecast for tomorrow and probably windy on Friday so not sure when I'll be getting out again but with the summer slipping away,we have to squeeze them in whenever we can.
