Was going to give up when no bites from the Magnet but....

Sometimes when you fish a different water it seems some of the same lures don't work. It happened yesterday under a cloudy sky with a cool breeze. What could be better?! Well after 1 1/2 hours of only one fish, I was calling it quits because I figured either the fish weren't in areas fished or they were really turned off. At the last minute I figured, why not try some of my new hybrid designs? Good thing I did !

The first lure I cast I call my cello tail worm:

Today I confirmed lure bias in another lake with my usual fishing partner. Got on the water at 7:45 but got too hot after 12 pm. We still managed 58 fish: many 11" crappie, nice sunfish, a few small bass and four very nice yellow perch. Sonar as usual was key finding ledges/drop adjacent to 7 FOW, shallow 5' flats and humps in 79 degree water. The strikes were amazing at times, soft otherwise, including double and triple hits - some right at the boat.

My partner is stuck only using a Crappie Magnet in one color but excels catching fish with it after I showed him the retrieve in spring. He's also convinced straight fluorocarbon has helped with the feel of the 1/24 oz jig. Hey, you can't argue with his consistent success! The overhead spin caught fish mid-depth using the curl tail hybrid, the straight stubby tail (pictured) as well a few other designs, but no where near the variety used on the other lake.

Unless I get the urge to get up early and off early, looks like fishing will be on hold until the heat wave moderates until the middle of next week.

Simple changes can be the difference between catching or not.....

Cello-tail! Great name. Who makes it? I've been catching some bass with a slightly larger paddle tail worm by Gary Yamamoto. The bluegill regularly bite of the paddle end of the tail though. :biggrin

For those looking to expand their soft plastic options Japan has a ton of them that I am sure will work very well on fish here. I have tried a few with the scent...or pheromone....made into the lure. The EcoGear 1 1/8 Grass Minnow is a great bait.....the Cultiva Ring Kick Tail is outstanding. I have quite a few baits I have not tried still unopened. I for one do not like using liquid scents.....not because they don’t work.....they are messy. So the lures made with the scent built in is very appealing to me.
