Crappie USA -- Crappie USA :: Tournament Results
It was a tough tournament for us on our home lakes. They always say that home lake is a hard place to finish well on and we proved it. We practiced on several new to us spots Thursday as well as hitting our old reliable ones. We caught GOOD tournament fish everywhere we tried on Picos and custom cranks I painted. The weather Friday was the same as Thursday so we thought our pattern would hold until bad weather on Saturday. WRONG!! We struggled badly on Barkley. At 12;30, we only had 3 small keepers and were feeling beat up badly. We finally found fish on one point and finished out our 7 fish limit and culled one of our original 3.
With us out of any chance to win on Saturday and bad weather predicted, we decided to stay closer to the weigh-in and fish KY Lake. We had a better day weight wise but dealt with high winds and rain all day. Again, we hit one point and caught 5 keepers on consecutive passes over it.The old wagon-wheel did it again.
Funny thing did happen early. Justin and I sat down on fish first thing. Our first keeper was 2 minutes after the 5:30 start. Our 3rd keeper was at 5:50. I netted the fish and handed the net to Justin. All of a sudden I heard a clunk then a splash. He had dropped the fish and one bounce it was gone. Neither of us had done that before. Oh Well.
Justin is the ultimate partner and we met a few years ago when he booked a trip with me to learn how to pull cranks. He has his jobs on the boat and I have mine. We work together great as a team. Our goal was to qualify for the Crappie USA Classic and we squeaked in. Green River Lake, here we come.
Does anybody know what the winning technique was?
