I was going to try for the last two weeks. High swirling east winds and lightning/thunder have convinced me not too. Tonight would have been perfect weather wise, but I was just too tired. I would like to know if the pushing or pulling jigs would work at night or if you have to single pole the brushpiles. I also have some glow in the dark jigs.
I did it once, many years ago, with Chucky ... and we moved around (almost spider rigging style) except he was in the front of the boat and I was in the back (fishing out one side). We had green lights submerged under the rods, then white lights shining on the rods. We caught Crappie, mostly dinks, and I got a catfish or two ... but I don't remember much about it, other than that, so we must not have done it long or had all that much success or I would have remembered more details.
That's not to say it wouldn't work, just that I haven't tried it much. Finding where the Shad schools are present would be my first objective, then finding where the brush/trees are in that area would be my second objective. Most any good electronics will tell you if the fish are hold up in the wood or scattered throughout the area, and that would tell you which method would likely be the more successful.
I have not night fished at green for about 8 or 9 years. I put lights out. I tried on flats, around brush, on deep points and bluff walls on both ends of the lake. We mainly caught small crappie few white bass and about 10,000 catfish.. i used shad, minnows and jigs. But i have been thinking about trying it again. But maybe this time trying it a little different. Funny thing pappy and me was talking about this very thing about a week ago....lol
I do best around Marinas, Docks & also over deep brush.
You fished the docks at night? I fished early mornings and night at the docks once. Not successful.
Fishing for crappie and catching catfish. Sounds exciting to me.
We did last night. Used green led lights and fished brush and rock walls only caught 15 and probably missed twice that. All the fish we caught were well within the slot limit very few dinks.

We call the 9” limit just a slot lol I guess it’s from where we fish the Cumberland River so much for trout. #habits
