First and foremost i have not slowed down on ketchn the crappie . I really enjoy it as you might have noticed . I have slowed up a bit on my posts some but not to worry i am still slinging the crappie .
I went to a spot i like the other day and the fish were highly cooperative to say the least . It was a bit crowded at stop one with multiple people dropping minnows . One came and dropped a jig as well about an hour after i got there .
I moved on to my secondary location due to the crowd and my want to have a little more room .
So here in lies the conditions of said outing ....
Big storm passes thru with a good rain , it quit 30 minutes before i hit spot 1 , the wind was pretty calm and slightly easterly . Water clarity was pretty good and the fish were slow at first and the bite was super duper light . The bite got to be more and more frequent as time passed and within the hour i was really slinging some crappie . I started in around 12 fow and went to 14 fow and then all the way back to about 7 fow . The fish all bit in similar fashion no matter the depth . The line would lay up or there would be ever so slight resistance when i tried to move my jig lightly .
I moved to spot 2 and the conditions changed rather sharply with a very strong south wind and the upper end of that lake was quite a bit cloudy and slightly muddy .
I started where i thought they would be at spot 2 and after 2 really small fish I almost said oh well 15 minutes into that stop . They were in around 14 fow and on my way to the truck i thought well let me hit around 10 fow pretty serious just to make sure .
The fish in 10 fow were on like you know what once i figured out they wanted it just above the debris on the bottom and drug really slowly past them . They bit real hard and i left them biting .
the 4 baits i pitched are pictured below and i am not sure what exactly caused the bite to be so hard when it started so light. i only hit that lake about 2 hours before work .
In the end i am not sure exactly what factors drove the significant change in the fishes attitude but to be sure from arrival to departure was a totally different ball game .
Was fun and i did give a bunch to the minnow guys and a large bass and at stop 2 i was alone and set them all free .
every 25 to 30 fish i changed colors due to plastic damage and tied on the pepto bismal to finish the outing as i only had a few plastics in my pocket and the one handtie .
nothing much over 12 inches and nothing much under 10 , managed to not even lose one jig as well ,how nice is that i ask ya .
such is crappie ketchn i suppose but to be sure it was a different game from one end of the lake to other on how they took a bait , numbers of fish were basically the same .
and yes KABOOM is still the word and i only did my thumb photo after the first stop . by the second stop it wasn't looking so good rotfl
