flash
can you use the silver tinsel that we use to decorate a christmass tree for flash. i been looking for something that just a little wider than say the krinkle or crystal flash that most places sale. i know im probably not looking in the right place, but everything ive looked at is more like thread and i want to try something wider. if anybody has ever used a slayter jig thats what im hunting. thanks

Look at saltwater flash. That is 1/16" wide. Here is a link to Hedron catalog showing the different flash and sizes. Hope this helps find what your after.

The short answer is yes you can use it. It may not last as long as saltwater flash.
Sometimes you can't buy everything you want, so you have to make with what you got.
Good luck.

I have tied a huge amount of jigs that had no flash at all and they did quite well! Now I do use flash much of the time now, but not always!

thanks fellas.that saltwater flash looks like what im wanting. one more rookie question is does it damage your bobbins if you leave the spool in em while not using. i been taking mine out when i get through.

You should be fine. Many people have a dedicated bobbin per color so they don’t even have to switch thread. I have about 4 now and keep common colors on them.

I leave mine in until they are empty and then I put another spool in! No need to remove them.
I have way too many and art least one for every color and 2 for many, some with 140 and some with 210! Probably have near 40 of regular bobbins and also 4 of the Auto bobbin from Nor-Vise that you change the spool out for each color. You have to put the thread on one of their aluminum spools to use it. It's not hard though and can use a drill to load the thread on the spools. Think I have about 14 spools for the Nor-Vise Auto bobbins. I should get rid of some for sure!
