I troll with jigs...about all I do. Except in the summer then I troll with bandits. Use all kinds of plastics but never used tied jigs. Recent acquired a ton of calf tails so was wondering if you have had any success trolling with tied calf tail jigs compared to plastic?
What do you think?
I have caught many crappie and bluegill trolling calf tails. They have a complete different action than plastic. I am not saying better just different. My technique is to tie the jig a foot or two below a 1/2 oz weight. The jig is fished directly below/beside the boat as I slowly troll or drift.
I have never and slowly trolled them, but have cast them and slowly reeled them back in. I have tied them in 1/32, 1/24, and 1/16 oz with success. Never know till you try it. Lot's of luck and stretch some line.
what is a calf tail?
It’s a short, course, kinda curly hair.
oh …..yeah I got a few ….no likey much …..but they will ketch fish …..

Calf tail, bucktail, marabou, streamer hackles and plastic......they all work one timer or another. Some a better than others, but they will all catch fish at one time or another. To be honest, I've seen nothing that a crappie won't hit! (Thank goodness!) :)
Thanks, I want know if they work trolling long line.
I troll kip tail and buck tail all the time. It puts them in the box.
