I was fishing a private pond yesterday that is deep and the color of the water was brown. The bream were good sized but had not gotten their colors on yet. Most all of them were a grayish color and had red eyes like the attached. The red eyes were throwing me. Is that a color that will change to black once the water clears up a bit...rain has kept the pond dingy brown.Attachment 375269
Might be a copper nose bluegill. Hart to tell. I’m guessing it’s eyes will stay red.

Caught several with a real red eye today wished I’d took a picture I noticed that it was different any way!
I often see bream with red eyes , not just coppernose ….
causes are endless ….
allergies to fish hooks is quite possible :Rofl
or the ever dreaded coronavirus has found its way into the population maybe ?
I don't think the murder hornets sting fish but anything is possible these days …..:yikes
all kidding around aside that is a jim dandy coppernose bluegill …

Thanks for the replies. I have fished this pond several times. The owner will not let anybody keep any of the bream but he wants all the bass out of it. The bass are about 8 to 11 inches long and there are a bunch of them. I have read where you don't want to cull the small bass on a good bream pond so I never keep any of the bass either. Looks to me like he would let us thin out the bream, All the ones I caught were nice fish but I think a few years ago I was catching bigger cooper nose. Anyway he doesn't even fish and the pond has not been fished in 2 years so it is his pond and I just go catch around 80 or so every time I go and through them back. It is a fun time so I am thankful to him for that.
