NO BOY FISH ?

And girl fish all flat full of eggs in short water ? These fish will always keep you guessing . The spot is typically WAY spawned out by May and yet there they were in numbers in less than 6 foot of water ?
To make it more interesting I saw not a boy fish in a crowd of them and noticed the same venue at the same lake last week !
What gives you ask ? I have not a clue , but the folks looking for spawned out fish in brush in deeper waters were also looking at me like what the heck ? One thing for certain about this time of year , it pays dividends to look in short water even if you think they are not there .
I don't know what these here fish are waiting for but to be sure I bet they are still around next week in short water on that lake as well .
So even though folks are posting up about post spawn fish keep this tidbit in mind ….
I was south of DFW a good bit and found a bunch just like these in shallow water . Never say never and I have seen fish in water temps in the high 80 range that still had eggs in them in early July one year .
And to top it off my avatar fish was in mid May in a real shallow ag lake and full of eggs too ….:dono

I like that filet job..... Showing respect to the fish for learning how to utilize all the meat.....I feel it helps catch on your next trip.....

Was kinda tired on them , got up at 3 am to drive to the hunt spot and set my bud up before going to the water , then the 400 lbs a corn to load and unload and the tree trimming and etc etc with another 1 hour 45 minutes drive and home by 1 made me just a little less accurate on them with the blade than normal :biggrin

Found a herd today here in town that are flat out totally Done spawning for sure and in a Full summer pattern . Not a fish one had a belly or a tail and lots of them just barely laid on the jig ....I mean like you couldn’t tell the difference between a 14 inch fish and 4 inch fish on a lot of the bites :yikes

Yep, sounds like a head scratcher , in Florida I believe crappie are spawning twice a yr, obviously more prevalent in winter months, but have even seen August eggs in fish, confuses me too, like to leave them alone during spawn.... always brought up brain-washed temps must be in the sixty's.......BTW like the filet job leaving out the stomach meat....

Here in Texas I have come to grips with about 5 months of spawn for sure , February until June in the DFW area without much doubt . It depends a lot on the lake and its maximum depths and about a zillion other misunderstood variables . The one thing I know for certain is we have fish year round that seem to be no more than a few months old no matter the season and that in itself tells volumes of what ,when and where .

no sir all the fish that day were white crappie , couldn't find a blackie in the mix for some reason ?
but the black I found yesterday here in DFW was for sure totally spawned out
