Choosing a net
Starting to look around for a new net, looking for recommendations. I currently have a Tangle-Free Folding Net | Frabill | Shop but it's getting pretty tore up and won't last much longer.
I like this net because I have a small boat and it folds down very small when I'm not using it. What I don't like about it is the net mesh because it is constantly hanging any hook that goes near it, and big fish like catfish and bass tear it up pretty good. I often have to cut hooks out which just tears holes in the net.
Any recommendations? Here is some qualities I'm looking for:
- Snag-free: limited amount of snagging hooks, fins, etc
- Durable - good for crappie, catfish, bass, etc (do I need a rubber net?)
- Bonus feature: collapsable or foldable for storage
Stuff I don't need:
- Really long handle - I scoop all my fish right at the boat not 10 ft from the boat
- Landing huge fish - I'm not pulling in 50lb cats, biggest fish will be maybe 8lbs and not that often

I used to use a EGO but it is rather heavy for one person. I now use a Jenko. J really like it a lot.

I have a Promar Trophy Series Collapsable net. I take it with me when I’m fishing for carp, gar, catfish, and other large and/or toothy critters (I have a smaller rubber mesh net when I am targeting panfish). It works very well, is easy to stow, and I haven’t had any significant issues with hooks or teeth getting tangled or tearing the rubberized mesh.
