want to tie minnows but never have on a jig

I have made a lot of clousers with barbell eyes and I know they catch fish fish but I want to try and replicate something close on a jig. Is tough to tie really small ones with the barbell so I was hoping to get a similar look and make it easier to tie by using a jig.

Any thoughts or should I just stick with the barbells?

I had never heard of that, either. He must have learned from some "old salt" tyer.

It's a heavy thread used for saltwater flies and jigs. Denier would be around 210 or 280.

I bought some size A Danville rod wrapping thread and it is a very strandy nylon. Too slick for my bucktails. I use size D rod tying thread, I think it's a 3 strand braid. It's about like upholstery thread. It's not as slick and hold big clumps of bucktail better than the slick stuff. Breakable but hard by hand. This is for bucktails 1/8th oz - 4 oz. Some guys use 210 denier flat waxed nylon but it would break before I put half the tension on it that I tie my bucktails with.

Okay thanks Smooth! I have never tried any of that really heavy thread, well over 210. Have you tried any of the GSP for your Bucktails? Do you really think that much tension is needed for the Bucktails? I ask because am sure you have tied more bucktails than I have as my experience is limited. Have tied some 1/32 Oz Bucktails for crappie fishing, but don't remember a lot of others I have tied.
So when saying you use size D, what does that mean and how is it compared to size A?
