Guys I need some input. My wife's 2009 Lexus RX350 needs water pump replaced. It has a timing chain so just pump, belt and fluid.
I was quoted $780.On my 13 Honda Pilot, I just had Honda replace the timing belt, water pump, drive belt, fluids, tensioner pulley. They charged me about $750 total.
Lexus seems out of line unless I'm missing something. It's at an independent shop that I've used before and they were reasonable then.
Thoughts. They said 4.2 hours labor.

I looked at a LEXUS dealership near us and priced the pump, it ran $174 alone. It didn’t specify if it came with the gasket. Belts ran around 30. Hopefully the shop who quoted you the job is using your pulley. I priced pumps at Rock Auto and they were very inexpensive. Auto Zone showed two different brands the most expensive one being $129.00. One thing to consider having done while to car is torn down is to replace the thermostat with a new one since the fluids will be drained.
Maybe call around and get a couple more quotes?

Thanks John. I'm doing fine with chemo but I have not driven since I started on the drugs (pain killers) and chemo.
Ill call the owner in the morning and see what he says. I'm limited in what I can do. Wife is not good at arguing with car repairs.
Now if were another subject, like my health care or house service she can hold her own with anybody.
But I've always done the car stuff.
If you have EVER had to work on the engine (V 6) crosswise you'll see why. $750 doesn't seem bad !!
You have got to dang near disassemble the entire front end just to get to it. Take wheel off, take radiator fans out, not to mention the plastics covers. Better have small hands & specialty tools too!
That V6 fills up the engine compartment. Even getting the fan belt on is a pain!

I had one replace 12 years ago on a 2000 chevy truck at the dealership and was $650. I was talking to a friend at the NAPA store about it and had said they get their water pumps from him. They charged me $368 just for the pump and NAPA said it was $128 to them. I didn't even get a OEM part.
Last summer I did my own on the f250, plus the front engine cover, low pressure oil pump, front seal etc. What a job, 750 for parts for me to do it plus my time. Over 4k quoted by the dealer.
A little over a year ago my car(2013 Ford Escape) had a coolant leak and I took it to Midas only because they were open on Saturday.
They told to me to replace the pump, serpentine belt and timing belt which I did for about 1000.
When I picked it up it ran rough.
I ended up taking it to Ford which cost me another 1000.
Midas refunded me 300. for labor but I had 2 weeks of car rental to to top it all off.
I am now so skepitical of car repair, who do I trust,
I have a friend who owns a shop in California, and years ago he said price depends on make of car...luxury cars get 25% mark up cause if you can afford the name on it you can afford the Luxury tax too!!! Have always owned Chevy, or Ford or a Dodge or two. Preferably older ones...just sayin', They are cheaper to work on. Less Parts to remove to get to the part that needs fixing...
I used an Auo Repair Estimator app and his charges were about midrange of 10 estimates i got. Over 4 hours labor was the killer.
