Last night I took the boat out to this spot where I can’t reach with my casting ability. It is shallow to deep along crossway. I anchored next to shoreline and found out I was in the middle of million of shad (1-2”). There were plenty of activities but I only caught 4 crappie, 1 from cast and retrieve and 3 from bobbers rig. I tried different depth, different lure but the bite was super slow. I think I caught more from bank than boat at this same spot. What did I do wrong or what would you do?
For sure I would have been using Slab Sauce on my baits
I would have moved, hard to compete with a million Shad.
G has a valid point, that and a bait that was way different than a Shad pattern.

A million shad can make it tough
I tried, crappie magnet, tube, baby shad, sliders, roadrunner and kalin scrub. The biggest one only 12” caught on kalin scrub, cast and reel slow close to bottom (I lost the jig right after). I did use crappie nibble but had to soak the jig to get bite.
Moved just outside of the shad and tried on the fringes of the feeding field.

Or place your baits a coulple of feet above the shad ...and use bright colors...Orange and Chartreuse and Purple and ChartreuseQuote:

I pull crankbaits two or three feet over the top of them...They will leave the shad and rise and hit the cranks...I do it all the time, look for the shad and then start pulling the cranks....works great when the shad are all along the edges of the old river runs. Works for me, been doing it for years.
