Engine break in / first maintenance

Got a new Triton crappie boat with a 115hp Mercurylast year. I didn't run the big engine as often as I wanted. I'm guessing I put 6 or 7 hours into the10 hour break in period. I did follow the manual andvaried the rpms as directed. Several trips were to a local PFA, so I just used the trolling motor to cruise around.

My question is about the oil and foot lube maintenance.... Should I put a few more hours on the engine before changing out the fluids to finish the break in period or just change it now since it sat for the winter ( Georgia winter )?

I would suggest going ahead and finish breaking period. The reason is they have figured out the amount of time it takes to wear in gears and seat rings over years of test bed running. If you change now you could still have fine metal particles in foot where gears are still going to exhibit some wear. So you would end up running another year with those contaminants running through your gears. Same thing on engine block with all those moving parts that are going to have wear.

Good advice. That break-in period is important.
