The problem

So being new to tying, I've gotten some cheap thread, some cheap feathers. I have basic tools. I have a basic vise.

So I've been putting my jigs together. They look generally, politely, ok.

The thread is a fuzzy kind of thread. I suppose it's supposed to mimic Chenille in micro form.

The thread is making the use of the whip finishing tool, just difficult. More than once I've just done hand whip finishing. And that's where I believe I've noticed that the thread doesn't want to slide up into the cinched knot.

Here is some I tied today. The feathers are combination of the turkey barbules stinger with the cheap feathers.
The bobbin holds the fuzzy thread.

I'm ordering some real materials to leave this material behind.Attachment 366017

I have never seen thread like that, Danville 210 waxed is the best route.

It's much easier (and your jigs will look better) if you just use chenille for the body.

Don't overcomplicate things. Just go to YouTube and watch people tie a "woolly bugger".

Once you get your thread you can use that yarn like thread to build up a body and tie it off with your tying thread. I have some similar and it gives a different look, and it catches fish. Look at a Popeye jig sometime. Minimalist fish catching machines they are.

That is odd looking thread. But bottom line is the fish don't care what it looks like. Years ago before cancer got him my son Mark came up from Fla for a week long fishing trip. All my jig tying stuff was laying on the work bench and of course he had to know everything about it. So he decided he had to tie a jig. You never seen such a mess in all your life. But he caught fish with it. I wish he hadn't lost it on some brush just for memories. Anyway he was happy and I was happy. He went home telling everyone how simple it is to tie a jig. Ya gotta love it when things work out like that.

Ordered the materials yesterday. Cannot tell y'all how much better I'll feel putting good material on a jig.

Fish won't care, but I'm sure you'll have easier time of it and better results when you get a few of the right materials.

I'm new to all of this too. I looked at a lot of stuff when I ordered and I didn't see any thread like that. I bet that fuzzy thread in orange or red, on a squirrel tailed jig would be a bream and shell cracker catching dude.

Thanks, my use of the turkey feather barbules for tail might catch fish. The fuzzy thread was from Wish.com, if that was the Chinese idea of fly tying thread, they must have terrible looking flys!
