Lake Oconee

Has anyone done any crappie fishing in Lake Oconee in Ga ? I’ve got to go to Decatur for some med treatment for a little while and will be staying there without any physical restrictions and Oconee is an hour away. Maybe DM me if you know anything about the lake or what landings or areas I might could catch a crappie to keep from going stir crazy while I’m there. I’ll be there during the week only and treatment is 15 minutes in the morning. Thanks for any pointers !!

I have a friend that keeps a camper over there and absolutely kills them. Great fishing and the fish are great quality..

This time of year i would start on the upper end above hwy 44 bridge. Sugar creek would be a good starting point

I grew up in cumming GA and would make the trip with my dad all way to Oconee strictly for the crappie. That was 20 years ago and to this day it is still known as a phenomenal lake! It has grown a lot in retiree population so there is a lot more pleasure boaters. This lake has several places with timber stick-ups and stumps. Flats, hot holes from factories, everything you could ever want. And also below it lake Sinclair is good for crappie but Oconee is best BY FAR

Might wanna fish near the dam in the next few weeks. Gonna take alot to clear the water there. Keep your eye on the posts about Oconee on the Ga boards.;)

I too have fished tournaments there numerous times. It is a good lake with quality fish. We done our best fishing docks on the upper end of the lake and Richland Creek. It was always in the fall when I went there, not certain of spring conditions.

Have a friend that fished it last week and this week and the bite is very slow right now. Has nice crappie when they are biting.
