Another Dale Hollow Trip/January 13,2020
I made another trip to Dale Hollow yesterday. As I expected, the lake had risen nearly 2 ft since my last visit on January 6th, and the huge thunderstorms and strong winds had taken a toll. The water was extremely muddy at the ramp and debris-filled. Once again the fog had settled in over the water as I made my way slowly toward my fishing destination. When I arrived at the spot where last week I had caught nearly 60 crappie, I started unrolling my Southern crappie rods and began spider-rigging with double minnow rigs. Just as I feared, the rising water had moved the fish and I had to search for them again. I finally began to pick up a few fish when I reached 14 FOW, trolling about 10 ft deep. Debris in the water that was moving with the current/wind made trolling difficult, but I ended the day about 3:30pm having caught 31 crappie. The picture shows a Dale Hollow limit of 15 fish. The biggest fish in the photo was just over 13 inches. It wasn't a bad day but not quite the quality fish I had last week. Once again I was the only boat crappie fishing that I saw, though I did see three boats bass fishing. Some folks don't care much for Dale Hollow crappie fishing, but I have to tell you.....I LOVE IT! It can be a tough lake to fish, but if you keep searching and looking there are good crappie to be had.
