I'm hopeful Matt Quinn will give more details about Asian Carp Fest 2020 that's planned for June 12, 13, and 14

Thanks for posting that. I'll have my Bay Pro 230 there will the new rail system mount for Rickie's Podunk Ideas DaDucer mount for Livescope and Mega360. Our booth will be right next to seminar area. Hopefully Rickie can be there all weekend. He'll have all his products in my booth.

Is the Bay Pro 230 up for sale to make way for the new one, or are you holding on to this one a little longer?

Jessica's talk will be very good and will give a lot of details about the upcoming carp projects. My talk is all about bass, but touches heavily on the effects of carp. Additionally, we will have sportfish staff there all weekend to answer any crappie questions. I'm pretty sure the Corps of Engineers will be there as well, so please stop by their booth and thank them for securing a $30,000 grant for sportfish habitat in lake barkley in the next fiscal year.

We will also be doing seminars at the Outdoor life/Field and Stream expo in paducah the following weekend.

Quick question - I know you are a fisheries guy, but has there been any discussion on any possible negative impacts of Asian Carp populations on wintering waterfowl (particularly the diver type) on KY and Barkley Lakes? I know weather is a huge factor in migratory habits of waterfowl, but are the Asian Carp also playing a role in the steady decline of wintering waterfowl on KY and Barkley Lakes? I've hunted both lakes since 1999 and in the past 10 or 12 years I've seen a dramatic reduction in the number of wintering waterfowl on the lakes, particularly bufflehead and bluebill, as well as the number of coots; that timeline seems to fall in line with the appearance of Asian Carp in the lakes. Are the Asian Carp populations having an impact on food sources for these birds? It's a theory I've been hearing a lot about here lately, just wondering if there's any truth to it.

I haven't really given it much thought to be honest. It is certainly possible that a reduction (or change in behavior) in baitfish due to asian carp could change waterfowl habits for those species that eat fish. It would be really really tough to show that in any kind of analysis due to the other factors that affect waterfowl migration. Conversely, we've also seen an increase in cormorants and pelicans which also eat fish.

A more likely impact would be the impacts of grass carp which (along with other environmental conditions) decimated (reduced by a factor of 10) our aquatic vegetation. That vegetation and the invertebrates associated with it are the primary food sources for many divers. Silver carp also have the potential to compete directly with the invertebrates which filter plankton from the water column.

In summary, its certainly possible and several mechanisms exist, but you would need data on grass, inverts, baitfish, nutrients, hydrology, water clarity, weather, and waterfowl counts on basically every system in the flyway to have anything approaching a reliable conclusion.

I'm starting negotiations with Excel on it. My contract on it is up in a few months and I really have my mind set on a custom version of a Storm Cat 230.

That's a huge windshield on that model. I'd be curious if a windshield modification is part of your "custom" requests.

It is as well as a split unit of the current 80 gallon livewell. A 40 gallon livewell and super-insulated 40 gallon ice chest would be more to my liking. The hull on the Storm Cat 230 is the same hull as my Bay Pro 230.
