Taylorsville report

WOW oh WOW was taylorsville Crowded this past sunday. Fished from dawn till 1:30, and everyone I talked to was producing little if anything. I was using green chartruse jigs, and minnows. Minnows = nothing. Jigs = small fish.

Then, at noon, i switched colors to a BPS watermellon color jig, and LOOK OUT! I was like turning on the flood gates. Caught four 11 inchers, and one 13 incher weighing almost 2 lbs. All Females full of firm eggs. It took almost 4 hours to get my first crappie, but they were worth it. I think the spawn will be in full swing by the end of the week. Mornings produced nothing for me. I would try the afternoon bite after the water temp has been brought up.

I never knew taylorsville had 2lbers. However, it took me almost 1 hour to get the boat back on the trailer from all the traffic.

i have had a great winter and spring so far, i think most people who fish taylorsville put in pull out a cork and minnow and hit the first tree on the bank they see tie up and wait, i have had several limits with some 2lbsers this year, the key is to be versatile, like you said change colors,depths and methods and you can bag some good fish, i give a online report for that lake so i will be going tues night to see what is going on. i will try the watermelon color you used and see if the are still on it.

In what general area were you on the lake? Were you fishing shallow around the trees or deep? Also, exactly what does BPS stand for? Thanks!

How did you do this past weekend at Dale Hollow? My dad and I went to Ky. lake this Friday-Sunday and did alright on Friday. We fished the stakebeds in Jonathan Creek and got 19 keepers with several big fish. Saturday we didn't do so good. We only caught 7 keeper crappie but did get several nice bluegill. Sunday we only got 2 keeper crappie (one was really nice) but got 14 big bluegill. All three days we fished from dawn till around 3:00. We didn't try the evening bite. Jonathan Creek was pretty crowded Saturday and Sunday and both of the weekend days were bright and sunny. Friday was overcast, cool and a little windy.

it was slow but i caught my first blacknose crappie, that was cool, going to taylorsville tues night to see what is up, the weather and water are right i just need to see what they are doing, i will let you know, tell your dad i said hello.

Thanks for the report, jfrose2. What did you catch those big gills on?

I hate to be so dumb but what color is watermelon?

We caught the bluegill on small (1/64 oz.) jigs tipped with crickets. I used Chartreuse and my dad used a brown color.

Watermellon JiG is #34 this was the exact jig I used with success.

Tip.............any shallow Structure during spawn = Crappie
