Questions about Nanofil fishing line

I saw a fishing show awhile back where they were using 7' St. Croix graphite rods and Nanofil line. They were going on & on about how well it casted lighter jigs. I bought a rod to give it a try. Been researching on some old posts online where it seems 9 out of 10 thought Nanofil was more trouble than it was worth. Most agree you could cast a long way but had concerns about tying to a jig or to a leader line.

Would appreciate any feedback from those of you who have tried it & what does work well for you you. I usually use Sunline Sniper fluorocarbon line.

I disagree Nubster. I use it in 2 and 4 lb. very good casting, I have no trouble with knots, and sensitivity is great. It has a personality like many other so called super lines. My biggest complaint is that it’s too light for windy days. The 4 lb gives me no problems at all except one. The stuff has no abrasion resistance and I use a clear leader to stop that. I mostly use the 2lb and a jig between 1/43 and 1/80 and with that it really shines. I cast a 1/43 like I can cast a 1/16 with common mono. It isn’t for everyone but it has opened a door for me that little else can. 3 rods spooled up with the 2 and one with the 4.

I agree with Skeet....although I no longer use it I did so for 18 months straight when it first came out. I used the one and two pound test and landed tons of crappie.....trophy smallmouth.....and tons of bluegill and shell cracker. It does not sink, and as Skeet said the wind can cause problems. I always used an FC leader tied with a 3 turn surgeons knot.

I use Nanofil and Gliss line and they both have their advantages and disadvantages. As stated it not abrasion resistant at all and you have to use a leader. It really shines when casting tiny baits. I throw 1/64 oz jigs with ease with it. It works well on my ultralight bream outfits. I would pay full price for it but I did find some on clearance at my local Academy. It's not for everyone but if you need to cast tiny jigs you want find a better choice.

I see no advantage of using Nanofil over Fireline. For those of you who have not had any troubles tying knots with Nanofil, I just don't know what to say?

I've been tying fishing knots for over 65 years. Have never had difficulty with any line like I have using Nanofil. Used it on several rods for a full season (3 seasons ago) and just had to take it off.

Knot strength was terrible with either the Uni, Trilene, and other knots for straight ties; or using the Alberto knot for tying on leaders. Lost more jigs that season than I ever have my entire life. I now use 2# test Fireline exclusively and have experienced none of these problems. JMO. :)

I love the 2# Fireline also, it cast small lures great, and it's much stronger than Nanofil ... what more can you ask for?

Not to argue as I respect you guys experience and opinion. I have some 3lb crystal and find it so rigid that I can barely cast a 1/43 at all. I also have others that are stiffer than that. I have 2 spools of premium nylon mono that are small and will be trying them this weekend. My uni to uni for the leader has 5 wraps each and holds well until I hang up deep and then the nano will part at a weak spot, probably from rubbing a branch. I fish some grabby stuff. All things considered I’m satisfied with the way it performs. Thanks

Gotta use a leader with a double alberto/Albright knot.

I do like it but will probably not buy another spool.
