I noticed the last two times i have been, that the heading sensor must not be working, because the little boat icon has went away. Has anyone had problems with theirs not lasting very long? I have only used it maybe a year.

Which brand?
Disconnect and reconnect to see if it may simply be an intermittent connection ...

Hummingbird is all I know. I tried unplugging and plugging back up but no luck.

Do you have access to another HB unit you can test the AS GPS HS antenna on ...??

Do you know which HB model you have?
Pull up the accessory test page and see if GPS+ shows connected.
You have to be moving kind of quickly for the boat icon to appear, on a Helix 7.
I have learned any time I have any problems with anything on my sonar I just do the reset to factory default. It saves time and 9 out of 10 times every thing is back up and running again.:twocents
I don’t know if there is that much difference but with my Helix 10 Rickie encouraged me to get the AS GPS HS he mentioned above as it will display the boat at any speed. Without it you have to be going .6 mph for the icon to reveal a direction. I hope I am quoting this correctly but Rickie is the man! It works flawlessly.

Yes reason I got it was because you have to be moving at .6 in order for it to show your direction without the HS. Question: I may have had to hit he factory reset about two trips back. Will resetting it to default settings make it lose connection with the HS?

It's possible it could have reverted back to using the internal GPS when resetting defaults. Check it in your network settings.
