Motor trouble

Went fishing today and as i was running uplake and it was like my prop lost a bite on the water. The motor never changed tone nor did it overrev it simple lost speed. It would go back to running normally after a few seconds. I fished for 8 hrs and when i went to leave it wouldn’t crank had to be toed in. It behaved like a dead battery. Would turn over a time or two then started clicking. My motor is a 2013 f115 Yamaha. Any advise is appreciated. All my electronics including tilt, trim, and jack plate were working normally. I only used my helix 5 on the bow and i did not run the aireator

The very first thing I would do is disconnect and charge battery, then take and have load tested. Sounds like from here that your not charging and battery was dying. Losing voltage to ignition maybe just charging enough to run the electronics on ignition. If battery turns out to be good, get a meter and check battery voltage then crank motor and check to see if it is charging. Should see a voltage increase when motor is running from about 12.5 or so to about 13.7. Doesn’t take much voltage to run pumps or trim. Takes a lot to turn motor over.

When you reconnect the battery make sure all connections are squeaky clean and tight. If you still have the problem there are other tests you can run to pinpoint where the problem is. i.e. "Voltage drop test".

Check your battery ground connection where it grounds to your motor. Even if it is tight....take it loose and scrape and clean everything and reconnect.

A little anti oxidant grease on those connections helps prevent future corrosion

Don't forget about the 100 amp linked fuse. If it's blown it will make engines do weird things and won't recharge the battery while your running. When mine blew I just cut the fuse out and replaced with a 6$ fuse from advance Auto and bolted it back to the wire and then coated it real well.

i plugged up my battery charger when i got home from the camp and after 8 hrs it cranked right up. i got a friend thats an electronics technician and he's gonna help me troubleshoot where the power drain is coming from and ill check all that yall mentioned. thanks for all the input ill let yall know what i run into.

The corrosion on the ground straps and connections wasn’t visible on a new freight liner I was driving. Cruise went stupid then quit, warnings started going off, idle riser wouldn’t work and so on. Mechanics took a scotch brite pad on a die grinder and cleaned all the connections and all problems left and never returned. Tedious and time consuming but may be worth the trouble.
