Wanted: Longlining Rod Opinions

Ok guys I’m relatively new to longlining and I’m looking for your recommendations on my set-up. Last year I used six rods up front and four out the back. My boat is old (1974 Ranger) and narrow so two people up front or two in the back is not an option. In the back I’m running four 7’ rods and had no issues. Up front I ran an 8’-11’-14’ on each side which gave me 3 feet of separation. I had no issues other than the 14’ rod was kinda cumbersome to use. I was thinking about going with an 8’-10’-12’ set-up this year. My question to you guys is, do I need more distance between lines than 2 feet? I have the rods so either set-up is ok I’m just looking for something that’s a little easier to handle, but I don’t want to stay tangled all the time.

I run 14 footers outside with 12 beside them and have no problems with the 2 foot.

2' is fine. I use 8,10 & 12' poles. I agree on the 14&16' poles. To much trouble.

If you are fishing by yourself and have the remote controlled trolling motor, fish up to 8 from the back. If your with someone, fish 4 no wider that the boat, and up front a 12 and 8 on either side.

Or.......you can just turn your boat sideways and side pull your rods spread over the entire length of the boat.
