Creek Bonanza

Last couple weeks I have been fishing the local creeks and doing very well. If you look over on the Panfishing Board there are pics of multiple trips and multiple species caught from the shore, all released to swim again another day.

?Tonight I made my last trip for the week (usually don’t fish much on weekends) and tied into a heck of a fish on UL tackle.

An almost 17in Smallmouth on 2lb test, what a ride it was. With winter pool drawdown occurring on the area lakes in TN, give the creek mouths a try, they are easy to get to when the water is down and provide a great place to bank fish for a couple hours in the afternoons. The bag will usually be mixed and you never know what the next Thump may bring.

Sure is drawn down a lot. The recent rains have the Chick about half way back to full pool

I bet that Smallie was FUN!!!!

The Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) uses the highland reservoirs of East Tennessee for water storage and power generation. The main reason for the winter drawdown is flood control from Spring and Summer rains. Our lakes up here make up the headwaters of the Tennessee River, which is navigable and flows through our state, Alabama, Mississippi and ends up in Kentucky dumping into the Ohio River. Cherokee and Douglas, my two local lakes, can experience a 40ft vertical drop in water levels. I can literally walk around brush piles in the winter that will be 30ft deep in the Summer at full pool. It makes for challenging fishing conditions when the water is rapidly falling each season and then rising.

Is the Corto your preferred crappie rod now? I haven’t ever used mine for crappie... I have caught some really nice trout with mine and that is primarily what I use mine for... just curious

The Corto is my preferred bank fishing rod no doubt. For Crappie it is best for cast and retrieve, great contact feedback, but not vertical fishing the deep brush from the boat. Not a lot of Trout in our warmer water lakes, but I did catch some “put and take” Trout with it out of Panther Creek last Spring and loved the fight on the Corto.

Nice variety of fish. Love the Smallmouth on light tackle. Heck, I love them on any tackle. Grin.
