Personally, I don't use them. Mainly due to the difficulty that I have trying to thread a plastic body on straight. Too many bends and turns for quick re-baiting, especially when the bite is hot. I don't have any problem hooking up with standard jig hooks anyway. JMO. :)
I, personally, don't use them very often .... preferring a regular Aberdeen hook. Currently on a 1/16oz jighead & 1/32oz jighead I am using a #2 Aberdeen hook. Reason being so I can use thicker/bigger bodied plastics and still have a good gap between the plastics & hook point. I have mine custom made with that hook size & weedless.
Most I have used have been fine wire which is nice for pulling a hung jig loose. If you're tipping I have noticed that the minnow falls off easier. I dont mind them, but I dont seek them out primarily.
All I use.
Plus
Better hook set
Small barb allows hook to really get deep
Super sharp
Meg
If you tip with minnow hooked through lip
Matzuo and eagle claw the small barb will let minnow slide off at times
Mustard has little larger barb and not so much of a problem
On 1/16 I pour #1 or 1/0 but most prefer #2 and depending on size fish you are targeting a 4 works good. I changed to sickle hooks when they first came out and won’t change back. To many pluses for me.
Use a #4 Little nasty..easier to get in and out of Brush, nasty places where big crappie live....Attachment 359301

#2 red sickle on 1/32 and 1/16. They hook deep and solid. I buy them from a tackle shop near me. I powder coat them myself.
I use both but I prefer sickles since they are much sharper than regular J-hooks.
