The reason I ask is I’ve heard anything below 65 should stop pulling cranks but this weekend we pulled em in 58 degree water and caught a 5 man limit of good fish and did it in 4 hours so the action was incredible and I’m wondering if it will keep up as the water dips down around 50?
I dont stop at any certain temp....I fish them until the fish quit biting them
If it works, it works! I somehow doubt they quit eating because the water temp went down a couple degree's.
Don't crappie prefer cooler water temps?
Once the water dips below 55 they will usually retreat to deeper water where it's not easy to get at them with cranks.
Between 55 and 65 it can work well or not at all. Just depends on the lake and conditions, if fish are suspending and chasing bait then cranking will catch them.
Of course there are no hard and fast rules. You would probably catch them on cranks in the dead of winter if conditions are right.
I can catch them even when water is in the low 40’s. Just go slow when the water is cold. 1.0 to 1.2 mph, sometimes even 0.8 mph.
I stop when the boat landing is iced in.
Average better than a limit an hour!! I wouldn't quit until I got to less than a limit in 4 hours no matter what the temp was. That was a heck of a trip.

cranks aren't just about eating. they trigger reaction strikes even when they aren't feeding.
I have seen guys on you tube cut trenches in the ice to run cranks. one even cut a circle in the ice and used trolling motor to turn the circle cutout carousel style. lol neither practical but worked I guess.
