The Dead End Road Adventure
One spot I frequent some is a dead end road that just has a circle on the end of the road as it has to or you will drive off in the lake . Its on a rocky point and to be sure is well known to the locals as a great place to hammer crappie and most especially on a south wind as its a northern bank .
So I hit it Sunday for a bit late morning and when I drove up there was not a soul around . The wind you see likely drove off any anglers in that it was just HOWLING ! I thought immediately to myself its about to be real good crappie slinging in a just a minute or 2 .
Man was that floating dock ROCKING and ROLLING and man were them there crappie fish all up under it . The bite was a mixture of pecks, thumps and slack lines and the fish were some kind of upset when you hooked them . I released all the fish and had a real good time with them . I use 3 baits primarily and tried a few others for grins . They would not touch orange for some reason and seemed best on more natural colors .
It was VERY difficult to tell they were biting and hold still enough to jig well , but in the end they came up to visit me over and over. 8 to 10 foot down seemed to be around the best presentation depth and there wasn't a real good solid way they wanted it to be . Some hit it sitting ,some took it falling , some wanted it flickered and others wanted it rising .
Boy howdy did the wind BLOW and it was sure enough tough to stay in tune , but man oh man was it nice to ketch some big fat crappie fish .
and then From what some would call the Outlaw Ketchn Whales .....
KABOOM is the word :highfive
