This probably has been covered many times before but can’t seem to find it. My trolling motor on the lowest setting an the front of my boat has a speed of 1.24 mph I would like to slow it down for for trolling winter crappie. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated and thanks in advance. If this has been covered could someone please direct me to the appropriate link.

If you are Spyder rigging- you want .2 to .5 mph, if trolling jigs AKA long lining, you want.8 to1.2 You can get a sock or 5gl. bucket and pull behind. Before I bought a Modem control TM- I just hit the TM pedal, every once in awhile. You do not need constant speed for Spyder rigging. I hope this helps.
You need a trolling motor with infinite speed control not a 5 speed. When I spider rig I do not move all the time. I stop a lot and move all around a piece of cover to cover it better. I also get bit a lot when starting to move again or make a quick change in direction. Send me a PM if I can answer any other questions for you.
Old timers drug a section of log chain.
If on the lowest setting you motor runs your boat 1.24mph, you have way to big a trolling motor on your boat; to much thrust in other words. Wind socks will slow you down, but that wouldn't be Ideal of a answer. I'd get a smaller trolling motor.
drag a sock or make trolling plate for motor.
Years back, we had a Jon and tm and the other end of the boat blew around terrible. We took sash weights from old windows and hung them off of the handles in the back, tm was on the front. No issues after that.
