A nice night to be fishing, 9-5
A very nice "fall is not far off" kind of day here in the Northeast, as Rich posted in his report. After work I loaded up and headed for the pond for a couple of hours to see if I could hook a few. Launched at 4:40 and pulled off at 7:30. It was a slow start but did find some fish after a while; not sure where they were hiding but my usual area was not holding any fish that were willing to bite. My first 2 fish were on the opposite shore, both crappie. I lost the first one right at boatside just as I was reaching with the net but landed the next one, about 9" or so.

A couple of small bluegill on the green/white stinger and then this nice perch on the gray stinger. Check out the grubs under his chin; I don't think I've seen anything quite like that before. Buried in the flesh, yes but not like this.

As the light began to fade a bit, the bites came quicker, with a number of 9-10" crappie hitting the Southern Pro Minnow tube (slabilicious was a bust tonight, as was the roadrunner) and the green/white tail stinger. The gray stinger hooked a few small bluegill and a 10" pickerel. I did have one surprise tonight; remember that scene in "Grumpier Old Men" where of them scoops up a fish in his net and finds that the other has cut the bottom out of it? Near the end of my trip, I scooped one up and he went right through, just like the movie clip. Looks like my trusty old net has finally given its all. Luckily, I have another replacement basket some where, question is where is it.

Rain and wind from Dorian is projected to brush us Friday night in to Saturday so I was glad to get a trip in ahead of the storm. Shouldn't be a big deal here so hopefully I'll be able to get in a trip on Sunday after it blows by.
