Herrington Lake Part 3

Carl & I took another night Bass fishing trip to the "Dead Sea" ... & for the first few hours it lived up to that nickname :Doh:

But, then again we did try some different banks than on our previous two trips. Anyway, we came back to our familiar haunts and put 3 in the boat and one get off at the boat.

Water was up a bit, temps were down to 84deg (from 90deg last time), and the lake was a bit trashy from the water level rise.

Even shot a couple of docks/pontoons, but never even got a sniff from a Crappie. Even tried my childhood days "drift pile" but there wasn't much timber in there, so that was a bust, too. :dono

Pappy, thanks for the report. Site is basically dead now with the warmer temps, not many reports. I'm still interested on going to Herrington for some Bluegill fishing. Where do you put in?. Years ago, I liked Bryant's due to the large and not so steep ramp, but it was way up in the headwaters.

At some time or another I think I've put a boat in at almost every ramp on the lake :biggrin .... but, now mostly I put in at Chimney Rock Marina. It used to be mostly at Kamp Kennedy Marina, but their ramp/parking leaves a lot to be desired these days.

I do know that a lot of people that Bluegill fish during their spawns are likely to be using a small float - Popeye jig - waxworm around the cliff walls (that have a ledge a few feet under the water) or else along a steep rock bank that's like "stairsteps". Yeah, I know, that seems to describe about 80% or more of the entire lake, but really it doesn't. There will be Bluegill on every square foot of the banks, but you'll need to get below the dinks QUICK in order to get down to any of size. (and take plenty of bait) :twocents

Always nice to see your reports and know you got out CP! I need some fishing therapy reel soon (see what I did there)!
