Does anyone here have a 2” fluid bed that you are happy with? One that works well using the commercially available cups?
I made my fluid bed and bought the 2" Cups from tjstackle. All I got was volcanoes in all 5 cups using 5 different colors. I've read that adding some gloss clear will help with the density of the powder paint which will help fluidize the bed. I've ordered a lb of it from Rosey's. We'll see what happens.

Thanks Tev8514. I have the same story. I made the bed, bought the cups from TJstackle and all I get are volcanoes too. Let me know how the clear gloss works for you. My beds will sometimes LOOK like they are going to work; the paint will rise in the beds, but then the volcano will start and the level will drop again.
try using less paint or stir the paint while you bring the pressure up
LedHed, how much paint do you recommend? Half a cup, 1/4 of a cup? Also, do you mean to stir the paint with a spoon or fork, etc; or do you mean to swirl the cup and bed around?
Start with about 3 table spoons, try that and if it doesn’t volcano add just a little more until it messes up. Then you will know about how much it will handle. What happens is you overload with paint and it can’t really flow then air blows through causing the volcanos. You will be surprised how little paint it takes once you get it rolling right to paint your jigs. Plus that clear really helps but you need to be judicious with adding that also. Get to much and it tends to stick on forceps and eyes much more so and make a mess. I use 2 table spoons of paint and half tee spoon of clear as a rule to get best results. It will give you better flow and a really nice shine to paint.
Ok. Only put about 1/4" In my cups and is a little better but I've figured out the problem. It's my paint. Each jar of paint i opened was clumped. 5 out of the 7 jars I bought. All pro tec paint too. I opened my last two hats this evening and immediately I could tell a difference. Put one of the paints in a fluid bed and it worked like a champ. I need a fine sifter I guess to get this paint right. Will the gloss clear help this problem???

I have an old flour sifter I use. It’s a little course but gets it done. I get a plastic bowel large enough to sit sifter in put a coffe filter under it. Then I run a jar through, pour it back in container and do it again. Might do this 3-4 times. Makes a big difference. You might check some of the places like bed bath and beyond. They might actually have something with a finer mesh screen. Been online looking for an inexpensive herb grinder but haven't found what I'm looking for yet. Hopefully the flour sifter will work if I do it several times and them I won't need one. I did 30 1/16 oz jig heads today from pouring the heads to painting. Holding the heads by the hook eye seemed to work well. They are still in the oven and we will see how they look once they are cooled. I used just a small amount of powder in the fluid bed. I may have had a tiny bit of volcano action, but the powder looked like a liquid. They seemed to have turned out well going into the oven. Much, much better than the last time I tried painting.
