Has anyone ever ordered from Asian Portal Fishing? Would you recommend them? What about the Major Craft Trapara Area Model TPS-662 would it make a good bream and crappie rod? I have been following the JDM rods on here for some time and have been thinking about one of them or a St Croix panfish series rod. This looks like a better price than the St Croix and I was wondering which rod would be the better, be more sensitive.
Never ordered from them...but they take Paypal so you will be protected. The Trapara has Fuji sic guides and a Fuji reel seat. The St Croix has stainless guides and their own reel seat. The Trapara weighs in at 2.4 ounces....a similar length with the St croix is going to be slightly heavier. The better value between the 2 is the Trapara...of course depending on what you have to pay for shipping. I have owned both. You will get a lot of fun with that rod for crappie and Gills. It is just as sensitive as the St Croix panfish if not more so.

Thanks Alphahawk I appreciate all the info. Hope you are healing up well and back on the water soon. Watching all your Youtube video's has really got me to wanting to try one of the JDM rods and see how they compare.
Thanks for the encouraging words. Hope to be back out fishing in 3.5 weeks. JDM rods at the price range of the Trapara will compare with a lot of rods here in the 90-100 dollar range. But even on rods that cost 100 bucks here you most likely will not get a rod with Fuji components. Even a Fenwick Elite Tech UL rod that costs 150 bucks does not have Fuji components. When you get into UL rods out of Japan at the 140 dollar mark and up you start getting into rods that simply outperform most UL rods on the shelf in the states. I look at my Palms Egeria that I think cost me 150 delivered and to get that quality here you have to go over the 200 dollar mark easily. They are just masters at making great rods.Quote:

I have one and gifted 2 others (different lengths) to a good friend. Excellent rod for the price - lots of fun on the CNBGs out here. You can get the rod on Amazon.
Here you go....88 bucks delivered to your door off of eBay from Asian Portal out of Tokyo. I don’t think you’ll get it cheaper than this. It’s 105 bucks on Amazon.

I am planning on using 2 lb test line and maybe a Pflueger President 25 series reel. One step at a time, maybe a reel later. I really did not realize you could get a JDM at this kind of price.

I have a Trapara 6 ft. 2 piece UL. It's a very nice rod. But the action is a bit slow for me. Major Craft calls the Trapara's action "Regular".
The next step up they call "Regular/Fast". I have one of those too. An FTA FineTail UL 6 ft 2 piece. Then I have a FAX FineTail 6 ft 2 piece UL
which is rated "Fast" by Major Craft. It's a Mama Bear, Papa Bear, and Baby Bear thing. For me the FineTail FAX-602UL was "just right" although the
other two were very nice too. It's a preference thing.
