A Little Tougher
I had a wonderful trip on the fourth. The only down side was the durability, or lack of, of the jig bodies I was using. Sometimes 2 fish was all I got and it was shredded beyond use. They’re big as a minute so it doesn’t take much in the right place to make totally useless. A while back I went to BPS and picked up some micro chenille in bright yellow and had some in a dark olive. These are what I came up with to try to copy what I’ve been using. They are Bobby Garlands Itty Bitty Slab Slayers and are only an inch and a quarter long. The hand ties are 1/64 with a #8 sickle hook that’s black chrome. I’ll give em a shot next time out and let ya know.

The olive and white and the yellow and root beer both did well this morning. Fishing was slow to start, and I was only out3 hours, but some good fish came to visit. What I learned was the heads I used might say 1/64 on the package but without a collar they don’t cast long enough. I'm going to try some heavier heads and crushing the barb on some collared heads and see how those do. The 1/64 with a collar does well casting but will be bulkier, which may also be a good thing. It will be next weekend before I get an answer, gotta go pour some now. Til then.......

Good looking ties, I have went to a 1/32 and 1/24 almost exclusively now while boat fishing. I do like the 1/64 for bank and shallow creek fishing.

Those look great, especially that sweet tea imitation!
