Hey everyone, I'm new to jig tying and so far I am really enjoying it. I do have one issue that is driving me crazy. My thread keeps breaking in the middle of tying a jig. I am using flat wax thread and at first thought it might be the thread, but now I'm leaning towards it being a cheaper bobbin. The thread doesn't always spool off easily, but as I said, I'm new to this and have no comparison. Any thoughts? Thanks for any help.
Where it breaks, if it’s kinda frayed I’d say you have a burr on outlet end of bobbin. Get you a ceramic bobbin. Doesn’t have to be real expensive but sure worth it in the long run.
It is frayed. It's a brand new bobbin but came in a kit so it's probably not the best. I'll check on ceramic bobbins. There is nothing more frustrating than getting half way into a tie and having it break off. Thank you for the advice. Greatly appreciated.

One other thing is to make sure you don’t nick the thread on the point of the hook. That can really weaken the thread and set you up for a breakage.

I will watch that. As a beginner at jig tying, there I no telling what all I am doing wrong. It's fun and I will keep at it. Thanks guys.

Rite Bobbin is the Best investment I ever made. Have some of the Terra ceramic bobbins..
The Rite Bobbin is the only one I ever use..
I agree the rite bobbin is very nice and you can control the thread tension. Solid ceramic thread tube not just tips.
Thread size matters too. I’m famous for being heavy handed and have a hard time adjusting when I go to 70 denier thread. Smaller jigs get bulky when I use 210, so 140 gets a lot of use with me. A couple of ceramic bobbins will likely solve the problem and keep in you from changing colors so often. I have 4, I know, I got it bad.
Skeetbum, I'm right there with ya. I have 4 also, and wishing I had 4 or five more. I have a hard time feeding thread in them little holes, even with bi-focals...lol
Jamesdean, go to the drugstore and buy a pack of floss threaders. You will never have another problem feeding thread.
