What are the crappie doing at Cumberland lake?

I have made a few trips to this lake. I have yet to hit them good. I have tried three different areas. I catch a few good sized crappie. But not many fish. I have heard great things about Cumberland’s crappie at night. So I tried at night, up in the creeks just can’t get them to bite. I’ve used live bait , jigs etc., Are white lights better than green? I’ve been using the green leds . There seems to be so many shad which is usually a good thing. Do I need to arrive at 3 am and fish until daylight? I’ve been trying getting there at 7-8 pm and fish until midnight or so. Any suggestions?

Well, i have not night fish much for the pass few years. But when i did do it alot i ended up doing away with the green lights and started using the floating head lights. To me the green light was way to bright and caught way more under the floating lights. But 99.9% of my night fishing was on main lake. Couple years ago i started going in the back of creeks. What i seen is the crappie would bite right around night and have an hour in the middle of the night and right before day light on most nights. Sometimes it is on as soon as you start and other times real late. A lot people dont agree with me on this but i believe in it. Depends on the moon phase it they bite early, late or all night....but i fished all night every time i went reguardless what....

Thanks I used to fish all night in bass tournaments. It is just too hard on my old body now. Several surgeries and meds keep me too tired to try it all night anymore. Thanks for the info. I believe in the moon phase as well. It does make a difference.

Lately I've been catching crappie in laydowns (trees fallen in off the bank) about 12 ft deep.I'm not catching tons of fish, but I usually manage a limit. I have had my best luck on Bobby Garland jigs in the pearl white color. I went yesterday afternoon and fished about 4hrs and ended up with 11, but the boat traffic was horrible and the water was up about 2 ft.
