A little history
Serviced a dumpster today from a gentleman that has passed away and his house is being prepped for sale. I’m a sucker for outdoors stuff and neat old tools and so on. Long story very short, I dump the can and looked around and there were a couple of rods sticking out, so I retrieved them. I’m dating them circa 1970’s. The BC rod is only about 5’ and would be great for under handed casting into boat houses for the bass I used to chase. It was custom made and had the gents name on it. Fiberglass with what look like early hard ring guides. The spinner is a Abu Garcia Conolon graphite in 7’. All original, I removed the plastic from over the cork tonight. I couldn’t afford this when it was new. Dad had one much like it but it was called a Boron graphite. Also very nice and a bit more money at the time. Going to sell the BCrod, hopefully to someone that collects this kind of thing, but I’m keeping the spinner. Be a dandy rod for seatrout. Thanks for looking, it was sure fun going down memory lane for a minute.

Cool stuff, got one of those pistol grips in the attic somewhere. And when I was stationed in Corpus Christi Tx i trout fished a 8 Conolon rod. This was 69-71 and those rods are bad to the bone. Very sensitive and lots of backbone. Good find and recovery Tim.

Good stuff. My first "good rod" was a Conolon "Worm Rod" and a Red Ambassador 5000 reel.

Good find always nice you can save something like that

Same here, but mine was a 5001c left handed. I wish I had a nickel for every fish I caught with that rod. I could be in a Ranger!

Great story. Memories are made to be shared. Thanks.

if you remember a while back I pulled up an old ugly stick . looks to be late 70 model and I just took it to the rod shop to get a new brass tip put on it as the ceramic broke out a while back . the guy I gave it to is totally in love with it and I told him I could get it fixed when he broke the ceramic out of it . he is on his third reel on that rod already and cant keep his hands off it .
sometimes that old stuff is real good equipment no doubt my friend .

I know it’s just a couple of old rods, and the spinner came with about a 4000 series Daiwa reel of the period, which I have already given to a fella I work with. But I was excited to find them in such condition. I might hang the pistol grip rod on the wall. Maybe an old 5000 or a 5000D direct drive on it. They’re just cool to this old man.

5000D, Dacron line, and a PawPaw Shiner topwater bait ... classic St Johns River big Bass setup back in the day! Thanks for the Memories skeet.
