Pre spring camp shakedown trip.
Jeff and I took the boat over to Jordon Lake today as a final shakedown before camp. We figured on checking the shallows for spawning fish and catching a few if we could. We saw tons of bass, small gills and perch in the shallows but no quality fish.
On a hunch, we headed out to a small, mid lake sunken island. I was fishing a hali/red worm under a set bobber and Jeff had a Bobby Garland Baby Shad in Monkey Milk. Jeff was the first to connect, a dandy 13" crappie. A few minutes later he scored again and that was enough to convince me, I also tied on a jig with a Bluegrass MoGlo.
Over the next couple of hours we (Jeff mostly) put 13 nice 11"-13" crappie in the box before we had the spot wore out. We moved to another sunken Island and I was able to put two more nice crappie in the boat along with a couple of scrappy bass.
Water temp was 71 and all fish were caught in less than 5' of water and all but one female were spawned out. These 15 will be part of our fish fry Saturday night.Attachment 345135Attachment 345136
