Pushing crank baits

Does it matter what size crank baits you use for pushing?

Deeper diving baits will run deeper as they pull harder, other than that it soes not matter.

Is a 2 oz weight heavy enough?

Yeah it will do it but I prefer a 3oz if trying to run them more than 10 foot deep, speed plays a part too. If you are pushing kinda slow like 1.5 and under then a 2 oz does ok, get above that at the heavier weight is better for me.

We use 2oz weights @ 1.8mph and do very well up here.

I like a 4oz weight

You do not want your line to lay back more than a 45 degree angle....that's why I prefer 3 oz weights. You can push any size crank bait.....you can even use lipless crankbaits like rattle traps and Pico Perch.

Fish don't care how far the line leans back, but with a lot of lean back in the line you bout as well be pulling.

I use the 3oz when pushing. I like my line to go down and back at a 45 degree angle, letting me use a formula to determine my depth. This past Saturday I pulled cranks at Okatibbee Lake in MS. I had 4 poles pulling cranks and 2 poles pushing. I caught more crappie on the 2 push poles.
