Report; 5/11/19 - Redemtion!
Walt & I launched this morning - with much apprehension - around 8:30 am in the Oxbow section of the Ct. River System. Our previous 3 outings were less than stellar, by any measure, but we kept our fingers crossed! The air was a very brisk 53 degrees, with a stiff breeze, which made it feel colder. Water temp throughout the morning was pretty consistent, in the upper 50's.
This is what our day started out looking like:

We spent the first hour and a half scouting around the deep basin (15' - 25') with nothing to show for it. Another dud of a day we figured. But, we continued to strain the various depths and ended up finding the fish in very shallow water shorelines - 3' - 6' depths. Few green weeds, but lots of dead brush and debris.
When we pulled off at 12:15 pm (our hands and shoulders were in tough shape with all the casting we did) we tallied 51 fish caught & released. An incredible mix too! 23 crappie, 20 bluegill, 4 yellow perch, 2 largemouth bass, 1 white perch and even one northern pike (all on 2# test line)! Most were caught on horse head spins. Walt used standard Road Runners. Mine were custom ties by skiptomylu here on Crappie.com:

To top it all off, we had a fly over by a bald eagle. Just wasn't fast enough to get a decent picture. Maybe next time. A great morning spent with a great fishing partner. Redemption is at hand! God Bless America. :)
