Cranking Equipment prefered for Trolling for Crappie

Hello People I need your Help ! I feel like you have a good idea of what i need to know and i've seen every anwser under the sun . But over the years i've found its better to go with the best the first time and get it over with . Ive done all type of fishing and long line for crappie with jigs and two poles in my hands in timber ect . I'm interested in trolling for crappie with crankbaits but I know nothing . I am very familar with Bandts even knew the original owner way back when . But i'm a mere rookie that has the time and the means to try and learn something new . If it works great if not i've learned something . Here goes my boat is a older 18,50 ft bass boat i want to know how many rods . what lenght rods , what brand rods and same on reels . I like cork handels but that not a must . And i need to know where to buy . I'd like to know the action best suited for what im trying to learn . I know 'Id do well with line counter reels . Long and short of it is i want to buy the best not just the most costly . So when you have time would you help me please . I'm kinda different in my thinking i realize i could sell all my fishing stuff and eat streak and lobster but it wouln't be much fun . I fish the Rez only . I know you have heard theses questions before and some of you have answered them plenty of times . Im sorry im botherering you again but i can't find the answers i'm looking for in history Sorry .Thanks

Well the sticky called pulling cranks is a good place to start. There’s LOTS of info there.

I use B&M PST for pulling cranks. I use:
2-8 ft
2-12 ft
2-16 ft
My short rod I use a B&M 410. (4 ft 10 inches)
Idea is your rod lengths be 4 ft difference. Short rod on inside next to motor. I use line counter reels. You get them out of Minnesota. Relatively cheap and they’re good quality. I don’t remember the brand off hand. Whatever reel you choose, back with mono. Pull cranks 40# braid. About 70 yards will be plenty. Get braid on eBay. Brand is kast king. Get hi vis so you can see lines when turning.
I use Arkie 350. They’re just as good and cheaper. And they 66 different colors.
Put out baits out inside to outside. 15 ft of line between baits.
Example: one side I start out
35 ft 50ft 65ft 80 ft
Other side 40 ft 55ft 70 ft 85 ft. That’s the basics. Hope this will help.

That link is a great read and most of the information is for "pulling" cranks. I on the other hand "push".....mainly because I didn't want to invest in different equipment. I wanted to be able to troll minnows/jigs as well as switch over to crankbaits as I felt the need. So for my set up I have Denali 14ft rods which will do both. To me they are super sensitive for slow trolling minnows/jigs but also have enough backbone and strength for me to put on a 2 or 3 ounce weight and 3 foot leader with a crankbait. I have only been with people "pulling" a couple of times so can't speak to it as much, but I have had pretty decent success "pushing" out of my boat the few times a year I go.

Like Skippa said, "Be Warned"! My wifey loved single poling and trolling minners/jigs, but when introduced to cranking, now she says "When can we start crankin"!!
