Day 6 - last oting for Jim @ LP 04 28 19

Last day wasn't the exceptional day we hoped for. Noel joined us and we ran into another friend Tu and his crew. The overcast didn't last and it turned out to be a cookie cutter day on 10s & 9s with fewer 11s. Good day to chit chat and drag lines. Noel and Jim hadn't fished together for ~ 7 years. I'm done for a bit - we covered a lot of water this trip.
We kept ~30 fish today. Fished mostly in 24 FOW (that might have not been a good thing). Water surface temp stayed around 70*F and the wind started picking up around 10. We were all using 2lb. test trolling our own hand tyes - me with my hard body jigs, Jim with his duck tails, and Noel with his Autos.

It was good trip - really got lucky with the weather (for Lake Perris - not Lake Havasu). Jim broke his PB CNBG 3 or 4 times. I learned a completely new spot for large fish - thought I would never leave the island, LOL.

Nice looking fish. Is the boat in the background trolling for big Gills also? Is your way of fishing common out there?

Good eyes Stan - that's my buddy Tu & his crew. They were trying to troll but ended up looking for Crappie. He got out too late and (I think) too many people on his boat. Trolling for Bluegill is not common here - I do it because I can't float tube anymore and don't want boat vultures to see what I'm doing. What we are doing is similar to longline trolling in Baja.

Can't complain about the action and quantity. A lot of people ask me, how old are the 11 and 12 inch Bluegills in LP. I really don't know. What do you think LedHed?

It did slow down but what was interesting is that Noel was trolling Autos and getting just as many hits/fish as the Chubs and Duck jigs...

The fish here, @ LP, have an exceptional growth rate and the Coppernose grows faster then the Northern. So these fish are probably growing ~ 2" a year. I think it would take 5 or 6 years for Lake Perris Coppernose to get that size.

You mentioned tubing in a couple of threads. Is it very popular in CA? I love tubing, but I'm in a tiny minority here in the South.

Oh yeah big time. Lot's of yakers, pontoons, and tubers. Most fish for the green carp. Use to be able to cover lots of territory - in stealth mode - and find some great fishing. Now days I don't know with all the maniacs on the lake.... We get some snakes (not sure what kind) that swim - usually the tubers are oblivious to them - and we don't have big water lizards.
