i found 2 on e bay and both didn`t work one was damaged in shipping the other just didn`t work so i found this for $18.00 shipped and ordered it . so far it works . i had to unhook the wires to the motor from the sir cute board and hook it to the wires going to the motor .my motor is the older flat plug with auto pilot and i hung up on a sand bar blew the fuse after replacing the fuse every think worked but it stuck wide open and the speed control didn`t work . so i ordered this . 12V 24V 48V 2000W 10-50V 40A DC Brush Motor Speed Control PWM HHO RC Controller 665230858625 | eBay
this will work hooked direct to motor but does not work right on the power drive . any other motor will work i think . going to hook it to my motor guide and see how it work but will be a while as it is at the lake .

Attachment 340898 this is like my board and the 2 wires black and red unplug them and hook the controller there and power it from the battery or where the power goes into the bord . this is if your speed control only stops working on the older power drive .

Glad you found a solution, and hope you got your money back on the bad Maximizers. Here is the one I made, a $13 PWM module from ebay and a plastic box from Walmart. One set of wires goes to the breaker+battery, the other go to the TM.

It is best to bypass any speed control circuit in the trolling motor, and connect the controller directly to the (fat) power wires going down to the motor. I assume that is what you are saying about the power drive, not sure I understand what you wrote.

yes i unplugged the wires going to motor and connected them to controller and run power off a battery .when i permanent mount the motor i will get power from circuit board where the wire goes to battery . every thing but speed control has to go through the circuit board .

I made up one of these units also; it would control the motor RPM but when using very slow speed as in spider rigging the motor would produce a loud hum. At higher speed it seemed to work ok without any what I call DC frequency hum. Did any of you have this problem ? Ifso how did you eliminate it??

All DC motors have a threshold for operation, below which the motor will not overcome the rotor friction and run, until the mag field is stronger. I have had no issues but I'm using a 46 lb new Newport motor on a kayak.

my motor didn`t make a sound . i haven`t had it in the water. i don`t have it on the boat . going to try it oh the one i have on the boat now before i take it off and put the auto pilot on it.will let you know how it does after my next trip .not sure when that will be .hope next week .
