I use a 6'ESP rod that is great except for 1 thing. The micro guides hurt casting distance if there is even a little bit of twist in the line. Any recommendations on a rod that has larger guides that has ultralight action.

I've owned ESP rods. It has been a few years since I used those rods but I don't recall any issues with casting distance using 2# test line. I did not like the guides they used but that is another story. Micro guides are not hurting your casting distance...what size line are you using? I own 2 dozen rods that have micro guides, many use 3.5mm guides and a few are 3mm in diameter and they all cast fine...the guides on ESP rods are a lot bigger than 3mm. Just curious as to the line you are using.Quote:

I agree with AlphaHawk...I have several custom made spinning rigs using micro guides and if anything they help casting distance. However, if you are using a larger reel the larger spool will throw a larger "loop" and it will struggle to get through that first guide.

Another thing that may be giving Bert a "twist" problem is using a UL reel .... and/or .... very light baits. Or it could be something as simple as "wrist snap" casting, which can cause baits to spin in the air on their way to the water. I've even had the bait to end up going between the line and blank between the tip and last guide when wrist snap casting a lot. And I've definitely seen jigs spin on their way thru the air many times when casting that way. Nowadays I tend to make a more "controlled" casting motion, and have seen much less in the way of spinning jigs.
I use a Daiwa Laguna 2000 reel. I did notice my reel is slightly off center of the guides. I'll remount it and that should cure the problem.
On my esp rods or any of my crappie rigs i use 6# braid , no line twist and lasts a long time.
